Bridgerton History

Netflix released their lush and swoon-worthy adaptation of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books, a series of Regency-era romance novels that follow one of eight siblings in the titular Bridgerton family.

The first season, which came out on Christmas Day, follows the plot of the first book, The Duke and I, and primarily focuses on the romance of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings.

The second season, which came out in March 2022, was loosely based on the book The Viscount Who Loved Me and focused on Viscount Bridgerton and newcomer to the ton, Kate Sharma.

Fans of the show are eagerly looking forward to Season 3! Here is everything that we know about Season 3.

Bridgerton Season 3

Bridgerton Season 3 will premiere at the following times:

Episode 1 – 4 on May 16th, 2024 at 3:00 AM EDT

Episode 5 – 8 on June 13th, 2024 at 3:00 AM EDT

There Is A New Boss In Town

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen stepped down from the series after season 2 to pursue other projects with Shonda Rhimes. The new showrunner, Jess Brownell, is taking over through season 4.

A new showrunner automatically means that the show’s tone will be different, and there will be many stylistic differences—hopefully, this is all good!

Season 3 is Polin Season

Season 3 will focus on Colin and Penelope’s love story in a massive departure from the books. The characters, played by Colin Newton and Nicola Coughlin, respectively, are featured in the series’s 4th book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.

However, their story takes place in the book series after a significant time jump, so the focus on Colin and Penelope means the story will be very different from the book.

There Will Be A “Mirror” Scene

In an interview, Nicola Coughlin was asked if she could give any spoilers, and she responded with just one word: “Mirror.” Naturally, fans of the book immediately assumed that she was referring to a specific steamy scene related to mirrors in the book. Although she did not share any further details, we know there is a mirror in season 3.

Francesca Bridgerton May Take a Larger Role

Francesca Bridgerton was noticeably absent from the majority of the first two seasons. However, news that the character has been recast with a new actor, Hannah Dodds, leads to much speculation that she will feature more heavily this season.

In addition, Francesca’s story deals with a second marriage, so fans are hopeful that we may also see the beginning of her story in this season. However, there have been no other casting announcements, so we do not know if John Stirling will be appearing this season or if Francesca will have more than a few lines this season.

Kate and Anthony Will Be Back

Don’t worry, fans! Kanthony is coming back! Simone Ashley and Jonathon Bailey have both confirmed that they are reprising their roles of Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton. Hopefully, fans will see this couple more than they did last season. Netflix released a great clip showing our favorite Viscout and his Viscountess, not only dancing but sneaking a kiss.

Duke and Duchess Are Out

Despite swirling rumors, Rege-Jean Page has confirmed via Instagram that he will not return to play the Duke of Hastings this season. Pheobe Dynevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton, has  also confirmed that she would not returning.

Other Cast Returning

There has been no other casting news, and it is assumed that the rest of the cast is reprising their roles. In addition, there has been no news about whether Charitha Chandran will appear as Edwina in season 3.
